Rajeswari Sonni, MD, FAAP, is the founder and medical director of Central Florida Pediatric Associates. She established the first full time Pediatric primary care practice in the area in 1982 and has expanded and served the communities of Highlands County, Hardee County and Polk County for nearly 40 years. Her focus has always been to ensure that our communities’ children receive top quality pediatric care on par with large academic urban centers.
Dr. Sonni received a full academic scholarship to the highly ranked Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute at the age of 16, and graduated at the top of her class in 1975. After passing the fiercely competitive ECFMG entry exam with flying colors, she immigrated to the United States in 1976 to pursue her passion in primary care. After completing the Pediatric residency program at University of Miami/Jackson Health System, she elected to pursue an additional year of training in Neonatology, and is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Neonatology.
Dr. Sonni moved to Sebring in 1982 and has been an active member of the community ever since. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Sonni has served in an advisory role to the School Board and been a fervent supporter of access to education. In conjunction with her husband, she established the Sonni Family Foundation in 2009, which among other public health endeavors, provides 3 scholarships every year to graduating seniors.
More recently, she is focusing on training the next generation of healthcare providers and hosts medical students from LECOM College of Osteopathic Medicine and trains Advance Practice Providers in the art and science of medicine. Dr. Sonni has also accepted an academic appointment at Advent Health in Sebring and will begin training Family medicine residents in 2021.
Dr. Sonni has been married for 42 years, and has 2 children and six grandchildren. In her free time, she loves to cook, garden and spend time with her friends and family.
